Self-education is a cheaper type of education but it needs more patience, more understanding, more reading and more searching. Never be discouraged from learning extra-curricular for all this is added to knowledge.
Knowledge may not be learned from just reading books and and instructions, it also requires experience, practice, ideas, action for results and feedback. Self-education without practice will lead to nothing.
How will self-education lessons and information turn to action?
1. Start to do what is learned.
Don't wait when is the time to be ready, because the time to start is today. The sooner it is started the better.
Don't expect so much on the payment, it is the experience that matters.
2. Process.
Observe and make record on the things taught. Reading a lot, taking notes, compiling and organizing the thoughts then repeating learned things from the experience helps improve memory. For easier retrieving, organize a system. Always carry paper tools where you can write things you have in mind. Try to write something on the experience.
Process flows on talking, teaching and other means where lessons and experience are on hand. Even if no one reads your compositions, your post and only 1 or 10 are your readers it doesn't matter. Don't worry on the attempts and learn and write about it.
3.Apply.
Expose and apply learned things. Ideas don't magically happen and it doesn't become action on its own. Just do it. Rather than sitting at home do some crappy jobs and write about it, what lessons are the result from it. Then combine read and learn, apply the lessons on whatever things happening and done. Connect all, what and how ridiculous it is, because never knowing what will happen may lead to something.
There is no fool should be,because the books can be read everywhere. Reading maybe a waste of time is not, if it accumulates the head, processed and acted on it has an outcome you will never know until you try it. Take risks and prove it. Get going.

"For me, I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you.” ― Neil deGrasse Tyson
